Micro/Nano Indentation Testing of Spark Plasma Sintered Al2O3 + ZrO2 + cBN Ceramics

Al2O3 + 30 vol% ZrO2 matrix composites with 20 and cBN have been prepared the optimized processing route, using spark plasma sintering (SPS) at temperatures of 1400 °C 1250 °C. The influence addition on microstructure characteristics, micro/nanohardness, elastic modulus, crack-extension resistance their constitutions investigated scanning electron microscopy (SEM), statistical analyses individual grain size micro/nanoindentation methods. consists alumina zirconia grains sizes/diameter approximately 220 160 nm 1.9 μm in composites. microhardness is slightly increasing from 16.2 to 17.1 GPa 3.72 4.29 MPa.m1/2. toughening mechanisms are form crack deflection, branching, bridging. nanohardness indentation modulus 420 GPa, 70 777 respectively.
